Weakness into Strength

Weakness into Strength

We all have weaknesses. Weakness in our character; weakness with our addictions; weakness with depression; weakness with motivation; weakness with negativity, and the list could go on and on, point being that each and every one of us has something or another that we are weak at. So how do we overcome our weaknesses? How do we make our weaknesses into strengths?

Let's first talk about being afraid to fail. Couldn't we consider that being afraid to fail is an actual weakness? I would say yes, in that almost everyone is afraid to fail at something; therefore, being afraid to fail is a major weakness to all in some way, shape, or form. Now think about this: what about someone who is contemplating change; would you think that this person might be afraid to fail as they pursue this change?Change, often times, can be a challenging thing for a person to wrap their mind around. Believe it or not some people don't even think change is possible. Addiction becomes a habit that has been learned all to well - so when the addicted person starts thinking about changing, he or she can become afraid to fail, especially if this person has failed before in their pursuit to change.I remember watching Bill Gates on Television a few years back; he was being interviewed regarding his opinion concerning the financial collapse. The interviewer calmly asked him: "What would you tell Americans to invest in Bill?" Bill sat there patiently for a moment and said: "I would tell Americans to invest in themselves." I grasped onto that concept and ran with it. If you really think about it – why wouldn’t we invest in ourselves? - Not one person can take that investment from us. All other investments can be stripped and taken, but not the investment in one’s self.As we slowly invest in ourselves by increasing our knowledge and understanding concerning life's progressive principles; and as our tolerance in becoming comfortable being uncomfortable grows, we slowly become less and less afraid to fail. Through this, confidence is obtained, where we then start seeing glimpses of opportunities that lead to experiences; opportunities and potential experiences given to us by the invisible hand in an effort to help us overcome our fears by challenging us to move towards the unfamiliar. We then gain a sense of poise as we challenge ourselves further outside of our comfort zone. We start seeing opportunities to grow through these experiences, which then becomes motivating. We are still ever afraid to fail; however, we are now up for the challenge because we have finally come to understand that growth and progress will occur through this uncomfortable opportunity we are now embracing. We are now on our way to achieving our full human potential ...-Hawk
